How To Do SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Simply put, Search Engine Optimization is a way of organizing each page of your website with the way your customers are searching for you. This allows your site to turn up in search results, and brings traffic to your site which should result in business. This is done with the use of the appropriate keywords and keyword phrases.

Findability Example: Our site has each page optimized for a different keyword, allowing us to cover all our bases with the different ways our prospective clients might be looking for us. The specific keyword phrase chosen for this page is “how to do SEO.”

Notice:

  1. How many times this keyword phrase shows up.
  2. Where on the page it shows up—the page Title, the top, middle and bottom of the page.
  3. The content supports the keyword, meaning that this page is indeed about “how to do SEO!”
  4. Notice that “how to do SEO” has been used as naturally as possible, and is not jarring or inauthentic feeling when you come across it.

It is the job of the search engine to find the websites which will give the customer the most relevant result. If you have written your content in a way that “optimizes” your chances of the search engine finding you and listing your site on the first page of search results--you have effectively optimized your site.

When it comes to how to do SEO, keywords are king. Knowing which keywords your target market is using to search for your product or service is the crucial ingredient to successful SEO. However, this is where it gets tricky, as they might not be the obvious keywords or keyword phrases that you expect, or have been using.

The Findability Group’s SEO experts like to start our clients off with a Pay-Per-Click campaign. This establishes your proven, top performing keywords. Those same keywords are the ones you will then use to optimize your website and increase your free, natural* search rankings. If you are interested in running a PPC campaign for your business, please either CONTACT US or take a look at the book, The Findability Formula: The Easy, Non-Technical Approach to Search Engine Marketing by Heather Lutze.

Findability Definition: Natural Search—the results the search engines determine to be the most relevant response to the consumer’s query. Also known as “organic” or “free” rankings, because you cannot pay to be included in these results. Both natural results and PPC ads usually show up on most search results pages.

Is it possible to do SEO effectively, without a Paid Search campaign? Remember, it’s all about the keywords…
